How can I communicate with a caregiver so it's not burdensome to them?

but I still know how my Mom is doing. Any communication tips?

Listen with an open mind. Thank them often. Let them do the talking. Ask questions "What if you...?" as opposed to saying " You have to...".
Be sure they know you appreciate all they do. Schedule the call once a month or once a week, whatever is agreeable to both.

What seems to be working for my mother's caregiver and me, is for me to schedule a phone call every few months or so with her (I live a distance away), for about 15 minutes. I have a list of questions prepared, and I write down her answers.
This caregiver is through an agency. She logs her time on their timesheet, and I pay her for her time, same as when she's actually with my mother.
She's also free to text me if anything comes up, and I respond as quickly as I can.
