What do you do when you are so depressed taking care of a parent that it causes your health to deteriorate?

I have major clinical depression and anxiety and have been taking care of my mother for over 10 years now. Some days I can barely function due to all of the responsibilities of running a household solo and trying to solve problems that come up with the City or IRS regarding household repairs outside of the home, etc. I have severe migraine headaches that plague me everyday and dizziness that causes balance problems. Income between me and mother is barely enough to get by and have no siblings to help. I am so depressed.

glornorth59,

I just ran through your list of answers on your wall and see that you have been struggling with this situation since May 5 of 2014. The list takes up 3 pages in Microsoft Word.

I suggest that you go back over the input that you have been offered and choose what you want to do soon!

Check with Social Services in your area to fine suitable housing/mursing home for your Mom. Would you be able to work if Mom were somplace else? Time to take back your life. If your Mom has resources, you should have been paid all these years.

glornorth59, good heavens are you STILL living under the same roof with your Mother? Is your son, his girl friend and their toddler still there, too? My gosh for the past year we have been suggesting that it is time for your Mom to move into continuing care so that you and your grown son can get your lives back to normal. I remember your son had made some threats against you if you did put his grandmother into a senior home, is he still doing that?

One out of every 3 caregiver dies leaving behind their love one. You do not want to be one of those statistics.... but you will be if you continue on the same course you've been taking for the past year or so. Please go back and re-read all of our recommendations. You need to make changes, and do it now.

If the house is falling down, look into senior housing. If the IRS wants the falling down house, let them have it !! Move into a nice senior apartment where somebody else does the fixing.
