How different is frontal temporal dementia from Alzheimers?

He was diagnosed with Alzheimers, then sent to Neurologist who said tests show more of the FTD. Anyone else had this?

Did the report show the frontal lobes are shrinking? Alzheimer's is a build up of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Actually a patient can have both. Add in a little vascular microhemorrhages or microischemia and he might have vascular dementia as well. Often the dementia has more than one cause.
So the MD looks for the most serious symptoms and treats the most critical maladies first..
