Has anyone used Mirtazaphine to get their parent to sleep?

pandabear15 Feb 2015
Thanks for the responses. Mom had her first pill 15 mg mirtazapine last night and she was up all night moving things around and digging through boxes, didn't know if maybe the dose was to much for her or if she just couldn't adjust to it. When we went to give her her meds this morning she responded but barely opened her eyes.

My mom had become fearful and agitated during the day and up constantly at night. She was started on 15 mg mirtazapine a month ago and the change was immediate, I told my sis it was a miracle! Not only did she sleep through the night but she was less confused during the day. The first few days she did seem heavily sedated but she adjusted quickly. Hope it works as well for you!

That is Remeron, an anti-depressant med used to treat major depression. It may not be safe for a senior citizen and is definitely not a sleeping pill. Too high of a dose could through a depressed person into a manic episode.
