Christmas Day my husband couldn't find the one gift that he had for me. He is frustrated with this awful disease. Any suggestions?

It upset him so badly, that he has obsessed over it since then.I know he is frustrated with this AWFUL disease that is affecting him. He has torn the place apart trying to find it. Went thru all of the trash, etc. No matter how I try to assure him I believe it will show up, he remains angry. He became combative, was mean to our little dog, cried, all of that. I know he is frustrated with this AWFUL disease that is affecting him. It frightens me a little.
Any suggestions?

Yes, we checked all through the car, the garage, etc. He even accused someone of stealing it - no one in particular.

I just had another thought. Did you check the car really well? Maybe it's still in the trunk or something.

I'm glad he's calmed down. It can be frightening to see someone you love out of control like that. Christmas and all the rigamarole surrounding it can be so confusing to our loved ones with dementia.

I did not see it before it became misplaced. Although he has Alzheimer's, up until now, he has been able to drive to town and to make purchases on his own. The way he was since Christmas is totally new to me. Thankfully we have a dr. appt. next week. I think maybe it is time for some adjustments to meds and more restrictions. He has calmed down a lot today, since I have been with him constantly, first to grocery, then watching a funny movie.

Did you see the gift before it became misplaced? Just curious since your hubby has Alzheimer's/dementia, did he actually buy you a gift or had he thought he had bought you a gift?

If you know what it is can you simply buy it, stick it partially under a piece of furniture or drape and find it with him?

Would it be something you could re-purchase? Even I get frustrated when I misplace something, so I can imagine what you have been through.

Do you have any calming techniques that work with him? i.e. music, reading to him, television, massage......
