Is there an insurance company that will insure someone over 90?

As her caregiver, my mom is my only support. This means that when she's gone (God forbid), I will be unemployed and soon to be homeless. Is there an insurance company where I can take out a policy on my mom (at 92), just so I am protected in paying rent and bills until I can get another job when the time comes?

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through and I wish I could give you better news, but I have to agree with cmagnum about the insurance. Even if you could find a company to insure your mom at 90, the cost would be prohibitive.

I'm sure you've given up a lot for your mom and this situation seems unfair. Many of us have gone through great financial difficulty because of caregiving, so you aren't alone but that won't pay your bills. I'd see if your community has a non-profit financial counseling center - of a sort of social services center - that offers financial counseling. Perhaps they can help you make a plan.

I know you'll miss your mom. Please keep us posted on how she's doing and on your own situation.

You can check around, but I doubt it given her age and health. Even if you did, I would imagine that the monthly rates would be very high. How old are you? What kind of work did you do earlier? I am sorry to hear your plight. From your other question, I gather that the doctors do not expect her to live much longer.

Greg, this is a good time to take care of yourself, as difficult as it may be. Do you qualify for social security? Are there senior-friendly places around you where you can get a job? Insurance companies are in the business of making money, so if you were able to purchase a term policy, I have a feeling the premiums might be higher than any pay-out would end up being. The oldest I've heard for life insurance has been 85, and that is very expensive.

Many caregivers find themselves in the same situation. In the next couple of months you do need to be your own caregiver and make sure you have enough to make ends meet. I don't envy you this task. I hope that you find something fast.

I think he's looking for life insurance for his mother so that he can collect money after her death to pay his bills.

I am assuming this question is about Long-Term Care insurance. If so, the answer is unfortunately "no". : ( Most companies stop issuing traditional LTC policies at age 79. Some go up to 85. Even at 79 the costs can be quite high. Unfortunately, this type of insurance is typically purchased between 50 & 65.

Greg, if you find a life insurance company for your Mom, the company may say they won't honor the policy if your Mom passes within the first 6 months or within the first year. Thus, be sure to ask the company if they have such rules.

Thanks, everyone for your comments. As much as I love my mom, I was trying to prepare for taking care of my bills and rent after her passing until I can find another job
