Who or what is a "Medicaid caseworker" Is this a random person answering phone when you call Medicaid?

Just to be clear, this won't necessarily be the person who first answers the phone but it may be the caseworker available when you call. It depends on where you live. In my state, they go by the alphabet using the last name of the person applying (or who you are applying for). One may have letters A-K and another the rest of the alphabet. Of course, places with larger populations will (we hope) have more caseworkers so they may do it differently. Unfortunately, you can't choose your caseworker.

When someone applies for Medicaid, either for themselves or on behalf of someone else like an elderly parent, the person who takes your application becomes your caseworker. This will be your contact person throughout the application process. Make sure you get this person's phone number in addition to the national 800 number.

a friend of mine just had a stroke--in hosp,for a month--now in nursing home w/ little rehab--he has expressive aphasia....he was homeless, but now i decided he csn stay w/me(after rehab)the social worker in the NH is trying to get him on ICP medicaid..If i took him out of there can i get regular medicaid and he can get rehab w/a dr on his plan? I've known him for 20 yrs..I cant just let him sit and wither away--hes only 58
