I am 40 and have ESRD. Do I need to have Medicaid part B?

My sister is the donor. She is also a school teacher. I am a school teacher with NYC benefits and am having a transplant.

If you are in the UFT, you should also be aware that your colleagues can donate days to your recovery "bank". They need to have over 50 and under 280 days in their CAR. They donate two days and you get one day. Your payroll secretary can help with this. Also, contact the UFT welfare fund about the long term drugs you will be using.

You need to talk to your union steward about your NYC contractual benefits. The union should also have a benefits advisor who will help transition you to Medicare if you get to that point. If all goes well, recovery time is only 4-8 weeks. Good Luck to both of you!!
