Did you end up needing to make up a story in order to get your parent/relative into AL? How did that go?

It's not cheap, about $5000 in legal fees and court costs, but it gets paid by her funds if approved by the court. In the long run, it can save you from headaches and heartaches and protect her from financial predators.

Thanks, Pam. I guess I will need to research the process of guardianship then? I have POA and access to everything, and so far that has been enough. Anyway, thank you for the info.

Mom went to ALF on her own for a one-month trial and enjoyed it a lot. After a couple of months she got pushy with residents and staff and announced she was going home. We pursued Guardianship and the court evaluator spent 2 hours listening to her rambling thoughts and delusional obsessions. The Judge granted full guardianship at the first hearing.
Lies won't work, the ALF interviews and evaluates the prospective resident to determine their willingness to make the move. She is considered competent to decide where she lives, until the Judge says she is not.
Without Guardianship, you have to wait until the patient has a fall or serious health issue, lands in the hospital and the MD, Social Worker and Discharge Coordinator agree she can't go home and you say you can't take care of her any more.
