What is the difference between becoming POA or guardian over both parents?

Father has Alzheimer's and mother is mobile but cannot drive. They own their own home and want to remain at home.

Sorry, I meant for the second paragraph to say, to become Guardian.

To become POA over your parents requires each of them to be of sound mind for it is something that they give to someone. From your description, it sounds like this would be possible with your mother, but not with your father.

To become POA involves going to court with doctors who will testify that your father and or your mother are not competent to handle their business in a business like manner. This is costly.
