My Mom has a fear of sleeping, she feels like she might not wake up. What can I do?

But she can't sleep in her chair all the time. How can I help her feel more comfortable sleeping. She only gets about 3 hours of continuous sleep. She does nap in her chair and I think that effects her sleeping pattern

I would not rely on Mom to talk to the doctor about it. I suggest that you write a note, email, or call the doctor. Doctors can listen, even if they cannot talk because of confidentiality concerns.

We got mom an adjustable bed. Online hospital beds with full electric controls are around $858, no tax, free shipping, mattress included. I did not get the siderails, too institutional looking. Just get one, don't even ask her. One night in that bed and mom's back pain went away. She was sleeping in a chair because her CHF meant she couldn't lay down without feeling smothered. She keeps hers at about a 45 degree angle. She moved to ALF and insisted she take it with her.

I try to talk with her about it and suggested she talk with her doctor, but she doesn't believe in talking about it. Not to mention she hates taking her medications that she's on now. She has COPD, and it's hard for her to move around like she used to. I'm an only child and it its a lot to handle.

Your profile says that Mom's primary ailment is depression. Is she being treated for this? Have you talked to her doctor or therapist about the sleep issue?
