Does the executor of an estate sign the deceased person's tax return as well as include the death certificate and will when filing?

I am the executor of my deceased mother's estate and I'm preparing her 2013 tax return.

suziq's link has the information you need to show on the return. It is easy to do the return for a deceased person. You just have to be sure to write that they are deceased at the top and sign it as stated in the link above. I was not able to file electronically when I did my father's return. I had to submit a paper copy for both federal and state returns. I don't know if it will be the same this year.

Sign your name and write "executor" and include the death certificate. The IRS no longer helps people with tax returns, but AARP does.
