We suspect my husband's mom has the beginning stages of dementia. How do we get her to the doctor for an assessment?

My MIL has always been extremely strong willed so I believe the only way to get her assessed is if she for some reason finds herself in the hospital with an unrelated problem. Distance is a huge factor here as her children live several hours away. Do you have any suggestions?

My 91 yr old mother has not yet been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but her behavior fits the diagnosis of moderate stage AD. I feel that taking her in to have the diagnosis clinically confirmed by a physician will undermine our relationship of trust. Perhaps it is not necessary to have the diagnosis established in someone of her age if it would not change the plan of care or outcome.

Lie to her. Take her to lunch before the appointment, and to the MD afterward.
