Can I get paid to care for disabled parent in Broken Arrow, OK?

We are living in California and my job moving to Broken Arrow, OK.

My dad is dementia patient and living with us. We are getting paid to care for him here in California. I would like to know if same type service is available in Broken Arrow area before I can determine the move.

Please advise!!

Thanks,
Jsi

Thanks, all for your time for comments!!

Yes, I will be out of job in CA if don't move to OK. I am living in Sacramento area and can find another job but I am with this company for over 13 years and trying stay with it. Based on all your comments, I think I just need to stop thinking about move to OK and start looking job here. Thanks again for your time....

the town is broke. it has assets of one arrow in poor repair, the arrowhead having never been found. .you might get mugged, robbed, or carjacked but you WONT get paid. you might get rattlesnake bit in a church service but you will not get paid.

jassie, the Sooner Senior program is run by the OK state health dept. So, no matter where you are in OK, you won't get paid.

jassie, you can look these cities up on Google and see what services they have, and get contact information to investigate further.

Will you lose your job if you don't move to OK? How difficult would it be to find another job in CA? Are you living in a big city now, or are you used to small town living? (And how well do you like cows? :D )

Thanks for comments!!

Sounds like, moving to OK won't be a good decision.

How about in other cities near Broken Arrow; Owasso, Bixby or Jenks?

I don't know how "decent" it is, but there is a hospital there. Broken Arrow has a population of 100,000, which isn't exactly a church-and-a-post-office small town. Tulsa is less than 20 miles away. Anyway, I think it is worth calling the hospital to see if it has a social worker who might be able to provide advice on how to get the basic question answered -- are there programs there through which a family member can be paid.

I could not find a decent hospital in Broken Arrow. You would have to go to Tulsa for a geriatric care center.

Jassie, your job is moving to OK? Does that mean you will not have a job if you don't move?

I imagine you are considering all aspects of the move, such as housing costs, other costs of living, and it is very reasonable to be finding out about social services there compared to where you are now.

Is the current payment being made by Medicaid or a county program, or what? Medicaid is a federal program, but each state can administer it in its own way. Look up OK PACE program for a contact person regarding services available in OK to assist elders in their homes.

There is a hospital in Broken Arrow. You might try contacting a social worker there for additional information on how to find out what is available in your situation.

I think you are wise to be checking this out before you move. I hope what you learn is encouraging.

There is not much in Broken Arrow, OK and good luck even finding a hospital. Lots of cattle there, good veterinarians.
