Does a legal immigrant's permanent house abroad count as asset for Medicaid eligibility?

Candca2, do you mean Medicare, which is based on age, or Medicaid? My opinion is that if you have a very valuable home overseas, you should not apply for Medicaid, which is for poor people. If it's not very valuable, will they find out about it? Will it count as your "home," so that they would let you keep it but try to recover the value after your death?

Bear in mind that certain benefits are based on household income and not just yours. Also bear in mind that after the five-year mark you need to become a citizen in order to get federal benefits. While Medicaid may cover an emergency illness, a request for long term benefits can work against you.
