Today was my sister's Birthday and Mom wanted me to give her $100 in a check. Will Medi Cal allow that?

I hope Mom never needs to go on Medi Cal but I find myself trying to stay within what Medi Cal finds acceptable. Every dime I spend, outside of food or medication I am wondering if Medi Cal would accept that in a 5 year look back. Does anyone know if giving gifts is acceptable? Does anyone else have this problem.

That is a gift. But if Mom gives $100 here and there, what would the total be in five years? If that is the only gifting she is doing I doubt it would have significant penalties attached if she has to apply for MediCal. But lots of gifts of $100 can add up in five years. Being prudent is wise.

My guess is that $100 counts as a gift, and $1000 counts as transferring assets. But some expert will be able to tell us.
