What do you do when your parents who are bankrupt will not do what is necessary to enroll in Medicaid?

EXPERT Carol Bradley Bursack, CDSGF Sep 2013
They are likely too confused by the substantial paperwork needed to qualify and might not want to admit it. Also, they may feel ashamed of their financial situation and think that Medicaid has a stigma. Either way, they need help.

If they won't let you help, maybe a good friend of theirs can work through it with them. You could contact social services and see if there are volunteers who can help elders needing to do this paperwork, as well. This can't be a rare problem.
Good luck,
Carol
