90 year old refuses to use walker or cane....stumbles all over the place. Anyone else dealt with this?

My 90 year old grandmother refuses to use her cane or walker. The problem is that she has no balance, stumbles all over the place, and is continually gashing her legs and arms. She is on blood thinners for mini strokes, so she bleeds for days. We have shared our concern that she will fall and inflict a head injury where she could potentially bleed to death. She only replies with "I don't need it" I am her POA and legal guardian and there is a concern legally that I could be held accountable for her injuries or possible accidental death.... If anyone has dealt with this, please let me know what has worked for you

I'm sorry your grandmother is doing this. My mother-in-law kept doing the same thing. We could not get her to use the walker until she finally hurt herself bad enough that she was finally convinced she needed it. So unfortunately, there's probably not a lot you can do to change your grandmother's mind until she decides to use it herself. But keep reminding her - and hopefully she will accept it sooner rather than later. And if she falls and hurts herself badly - it wont be your fault. You have tried to get her to comply - and that's all you can to is try. But you won't be held liable unless there's good reason to indicate you may have "caused" her to fall. Good luck!!
