My husband has Alz and is having trouble getting out of his favorite recliner. I thought perhaps a lift chair would help. Any suggestions? I have trouble getting him out of the chair because he is about 120# heavier than me.

As NancyH said there are plenty of lift chairs on the market but they do cost about $800. I don't know if that is something Medicare or Medicaid would cover. you would need a Dr's prescription as with any other medical equipment. It is certainly worth asking.

I got one for my mother-in-law after she broke her OTHER hip. Her old chair was broken down and really hard to get out of, so thought the lift chair would be the logical idea. She has dementia, so she forgot to use the corded control to help her up. So I taped the controller onto the chair arm, right there her hand would rest. She just pushes herself up off that chair with her hands a little further back. I've been over there when she's playing with the buttons on it though, so I know she knows what that thing taped to her chair is. But she just does NOT remember to use it to get herself up and out of that chair. I give up. ha
