How do I know if my husband qualifies for social security disability benefits?

I am told that my husband may qualify for S.S.I. benefits, as our financial situation is quite dire. He is 75, does anyone know about the elderly low income being able to qualify? He is advanced dementia, CHF, diabetes, stage 3 kidney disease, and sleep apnea..and it has depleted all our investments and savings. I am worn out trying to care for him and find financial assistance, too

You can go to the Social Security Administration website (ssa.gov) and there's a tab you can click on that says "SSI". Once you click on the tab, it will take you to a page that explains SSI benefits and it will give you a phone number to call to start the application process.

For SSI, you need to meet both a medical and an income requirement. It sounds like you meet both from what you've told us.

Good luck!
