What if your elderly loved one has extreme restlessness and cannot sleep because of it but does NOT have dementia?

Good! This is something to discuss with the neurologist. Restlessness can be a common condition in dementia. Inability to sleep at night is also common, and can be a real challenge for caregiving. There may be treatments for these conditions.

The neurologist we saw would never start more than one medication at a time, so he asked us to prioritize the symptoms we wanted to see treated. For me the problem of not sleeping through the night was #1, hands down. Fortunately the treatment for that was very effective.

Do let us know about the doctor visit, and how this is working out for you.
