Has anyone had a loved one turn on them when first diagnosed with dementia?

I was wondering if anyone had their parent be mean towards them not wanting them around or help them? Did they not want you in the begining of the diagnosed but then change a month or so later to wanting you to help them?

My mother turned on me and accused me of stealing and trying to poison her. She called the police on me and had her neighbors help her call her lawyer. She became very paranoid and would not let me in her home. Luckily, her doctor put her on respiradal. The side effects from the drug are not good but she did become my mom again. Good luck to you.

Oh yes been there done that...My mother thought she had a duaghter and a caregiver named Mara. Told her that that was me "Nope your the mean Mara and the other mara is my daughter!" It was very difficult not to be recognized by her it was so slow coming on and she played the game so well I was not aware that she didn't know who I was. This I'm sure does not answer your question, but you'll need to help her anyway... just don't tell her what she HAS to do just use suggestions and not too many.
