Dad tries to urinate in inappropriate places, for example a trash can, even when a urinal is within sight. How do we help him?

Dad tries to urinate in inappropriate places--- for example a trash can, even when a urinal is within sight. I theorize that he fixates on an imagined solution and is unable to recognize and switch to viable solutions. He can read from a book, yet doesn't process large printed signs on the doors within his condo. He can't find his own bathroom, but will pee on the carpet in a corner, on the garage floor, or even a chair cushion. He tries to be cooperative, but if you're not right at hand to intervene, it's very quickly too late. We suggest frequent bathroom visits, but of course he "doesn't need to go" until urgency strikes--- and rationality fails. Dad & Mom are 91. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I just checked and you can buy gallon bottles of Nature's Little Miracle on Amazon. It is the size I would recommend for people having frequent accidents on furniture, carpets, and wood floors. The product is a favorite of animal people, so comes well recommended.

WIFEandFAMILY, I have seen this question asked several times, but have not seen satisfactory answers. I looked through the archives, but saw even Carol did not have a good suggestion for someone who asked. I wish there were some way to link the urge to go with the place to go, but I don't know if there is. The only suggestion I can make is try to make the house urine-proof as possible by using incontinence pads in chairs and closets and trying to find something to waterproof the carpet in susceptible areas. The waterproofing, of course, would have to be something that doesn't create a trip hazard.

When there is an accident, there is a wonderful product called Nature's Little Miracle. It was formulated for pet accidents, but can also be used for people. You can order it online by the bottle. It will help keep the furniture fresher. Good luck with this. I hope this is a thing that passes.
