Does anyone remember the "term" that I read recently on AgingCare for a dementia/Alz patient's false lies?

My mother, who I am caring for in my home has advanced dementia, delusions and hallucinations. She tells false lies about people sneaking in the house, stealing and beating her up at night, etc. I read there is a specific language term for those kind of lies. Does anyone remember what that term is?

Hi elnmrp,

The term is "confabulation." It is also known as honest lying. Confabulation occurs when your monther's mind tries to fill in the information gaps created by her dementia. For more information on confabulation and how to deal with it, you can consult the following article: https://www.agingcare.com/articles/communicating-with-dementia-patients-150914.htm
