Mom contracted MRSA during her stay in rehab. We're on the fourth reoccurrence? Anyone have MRSA experience and how to prevent or cure?

We found out about 6 weeks after Mom left rehab (broken hip) that she had an MRSA staff infection. The reason I know she contracted it during her rehab is that she had the exact same sores in her head that were diagnosed 6 weeks later as MRSA staff. Since coming home about 5 months ago, the infection has reoccured 4 times. The treatment is a different anitbiotic each time. Everything that I've read says there is no cure and that it could come back regularly, or not. She gets very painful sores (head, bum, stomach and now one on her thigh), and begins to have insomnia and then hallucinations from lack of sleep each time before the outbreak. (I just realized that this time) Once we start the antibiotics, there have been yeast infections in her mouth and other reactions to the antibiotics that just make the situation that much harder for her. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had any success in treatments for MRSA that I might suggest when talking to her Dr.?? Thanks!!

I'm so sorry! What a miserable thing to happen after breaking a hip. MRSA is increasing in hospital settings and is hard to treat because of bacteria resistance to antibiotics. That's why they give her a different drug each time. All I can say is listen to the doctors. If you aren't sure about the one she has, you may want to seek a second opinion. Good luck,
Carol

Carol, we've had a couple of Dr.'s already and I've researched some ideas on the internet, just to see what information is out there. Thanks for responding. KJ

Have you spoken to an infection specialist? My mother had 7 rounds of C-Diff and finally I consulted with an infection doctor and he cleared her up.
Blessings,
Bridget
