What can I do if an elderly man goes to the bathroom everywhere because he cannot control his movements?

jim n tx.....
I ask this question erlier today as my own, but it wasnt posted. dont know if email messed up or what. her dad lives with them. he is bed ridden, and 75 yrs old. he has an erection nearly all the time. he urinates all over everything because he obviously cant use a urinal very well. the doctor ordered a catherter put in, but the nurse cant get in with him erect. if he is not erect when she gets there, it is before she gets it in. doctor says his colesterol level is much to high for someone that age. he suggested casteration, but they hate to do that. anyone have any ideas or ever heard of this problem?....THANKS--jim

JIM:

I can't imagine the pain he must be going through. Had a patient recently whose flag was raised at full mast most of the day the day because of Trazodone, so his meds definitely have to be checked. The doctor(s) who suggested castration, were they butchers at one time?

I just came across this interesting question. I'm surprised the doctor didn't order a condom catheter. Seems like a no-brainer...

I did some quick research for you. Look up "PRIAPISM" or "PRIAPISM in elderly" There is a reason for his chronic erection. I am no means a doctor and diagnosed his problem. I agree to take him to an Urologist. I did read that the condition above is caused by numerous things like certain types of medications. So look at different sites to gather some information about causes and see if his symptoms is in correlation. Don't let your friend be casterated without seeking the root to the problem. Sometimes Drs are so fast to take the easy road instead of consideration for the patient.

I'd say they need to be asking a Urologist these questions. They should him up in an ambulance and take him to the doctor.
