Does a caregiver have to claim the amount a veteran pays his family for care?

My step Dad has VA benefits for nursing home. Hospice is being called in. Will this affect his benefits?

My first reaction is that, no matter where you receive income, it has to be reported. However, since this is a government benefit and you are a family caregiver, the rules may be different. IRS.gov has a section dedicated to caregivers. Also, you may want to check with an accountant or elder law attorney.
