Absolutley get him somewhere where he can get wound care. I wa trying to figure out your situation to see how long term it potentially was. My mother in law was an hospice for a week before she passed so she didn't have to suffer long. She was morbidly obese also. While she was in the hospital for 3 weeks prior she didn't get bed sores. She had one very small one. Once we brought her home during that week she got more and more of them from being on a regular hospital bed matress. And of coarse we were turning her as much as we could but a little as possible because her stomach and sides were so sore. She did get repositioned every 2 hours even if it was only slight. But after just one week at home they had gotten much worse(and i have been trained to prevent them). That's how hard it is to keep a morbidly obese person from getting them at home. They have speacial beds and are more equipted with man power to handle a morbidly obese person in a facility or hospital. Those are very painful.
we have an inhome lift...he can't stand to be in it....he is morbidly obese and his sides are tender...He is totally immobile, has no bowel or bladder control.....the hospice nurse stated he needs to be somewhere for pain and wound control....I am working with social worker, and may have to get DHS involved...I have taken care of him for 12 years, now I have no say....but I have found a very competent attorney....thanks for your help
Do an internet search under "patient lifts." Medicare wven helps if one is rented. These work for repositioning, cleaning, medical examinations, airing, etc.. There is no need to live with bed sores. Of course, it can also be used to facilitate exercise and weight loss. It works!
Oh yes, we have seen about them through hospice, but he continues to get worse...I just wondered if anyone out there has similiar situation...totally bedridden, vascular dementia...draining like a sieve through the bedsores...I think he needs to be placed where they can help him further...opposition from his children....it is so sad, I can't help worrying sick about him!
