Having enough income to pay fully for sheltered housing from income etc, can I still control my own finances?

If you feel that you can manage your finances effectively, yes, you should do so. If you are not comfortable with financial issues ask a TRUSTED family member to assist. (Does someone have your power of attorney?) If you are paying for your housing, there are no government issues that I can see.
