How do I convince my 83-year-old grandmother to come live with me?

Is she able to live on her own? If so, just help her out in anyway you can. If she is unsafe, then you need to be more persistent or even call in another trusted family member, friend, or clergy member. Always keep in mind that you are doing what is best for HER.
My Mom is also in her 80s and lives in her own apt (with lots of help from us.) Our goal is to help her live independently for as long as it is safe to do so. We have recently increased her in-home help to 2 days a week. It takes a lot of coordination, but it is what she wants and I don't blame her. I would not want to move into another family member's home no matter how much I liked them. It is very difficult to combine two households and not get on each other's nerves. Think this through before you insist that your grandmother make this transition. It is too hard on an elderly person to keep moving them to new surroundings. Also, investigate local care options and free services in your area.
