I cannot afford assisted living expenses for my mother. Where can I get help?

Does your mother have any finances of her own? Most people that go to some type of facility and have no funds can go through the Medicaid program. The social worker at the facility will do all the paperwork for you. There is a cap ($10,000) on the amount of money the person can have and that includes life insurance policies. So there would have to be what is called a "spend down", but you have to be careful with what it is spent on. In my mother's case, her entire funeral expenses were paid which took most of what she had in a life insurance policy....she had no other funds except her social security. You can also call your local Division of Aging for some guidelines on funding. I hope this helps a little. Good luck!
