My aunt has been experiencing hallucinations alone but when she is around others she is fine. What can I do to help her with these hallucinations?

Vascular dementia with hallucinations - what to do? My aunt has been experiencing hallucinations when alone - she says they are bothersome. When she is with others (she lives in asst. living) she's fine. I hesitate to put her on any strong medications due to the bad side effects. What should we do?
