What is the best medical alert system to have when caring for an elder?

rescuealertofca Aug 2012
Some very important questions to ask when purchasing a medical alert system that haven't been covered include:
1. What is the signal range of the base unit? How far can the elder wearing the button go before their equipment becomes useless?
2. What features does the unit offer? Can you program other numbers into the unit in case of an emergency in which you need to contact loved ones or a caretaker?
3. What are other people saying about the brand? Are there testimonials out there, or just bad reviews?

In my previous post I meant that amenities in the product and good, reliable customer service are a must.

I think that customer service and the amenities. Their systems are equipped for any emergency, so fires, falls, and general security. It seems like a great company with excellent customer service.

My mother lives alone and fell about 6 weeks ago and if she didn't have a medical alert bracelet, she could have laid on the floor for hours. Luckily, she pushed the button and the paramedics were there within 10 minutes. I was notified before the paramedics as her first emergency contact but I was not in town so I instructed them to send the paramedics. Again, I was so thankful for the service from Medical Guardian.

There are three important questions to ask when looking for a medical alert system:

1. Who does the monitoring? All monitoring should be handled by a UL Listed monitoring center that is owned by the company that you are dealiing with. When you outsource the emergency response, who knows what you might be getting.
2. What if I need to cancel? Make sure that there are no long-term contracts and that you can cancel at any time with no penalties.
3. What are the fees? The cost should be around $1 per day. PLUS, There is no reason to ever pay a start-up fee or installation fee. This product is as easy to set up as an answering machine.

I am looking for a suggestion for a medical alert system based on experience by others. Especially in comments about the company support/service component.
