can I spend down my 86 year old fathers assets by keeping him and taking care of him in my home for a fee?

if anyone knows the answer to this please let me know. I have been the caretaker since 1997. Now I am separated - unemployed and my mother does not want to buy the basic things for our rental house - to survive. Like food and turns the air conditioner off to save money - ever been in the humid summer in Memphis, She has about $70,000 left and gets about $2,000 in a month, I have power of attorney - but has anyone ever lived in the house with an angry oxygen deprived mom- after all these years she has decided she hates me and my life is in shambles. It is so hard !!!
