Many states have a federal Medicaid waiver program called "Cash and Counseling" which allows the recipient to pay a family member for care. Your state may also have a state funded similar program. The VA offers a special pension to qualifying veterans called "Aid and Attendance". This, too, can be used to pay a family member for care.

I assume you've read Ralph's answer, which is excellent. The waiting time for people is extremely frustrating, as so many of us just keep on giving until it's obvious that there's nothing left to give. Try your state's website and type "aging" in the search box. You may find other programs there, or the National Family Caregiver Support Program in your state may provide some answers. I have been caring for my Mom for 5 years now. I had to quit working. I do not even have a car or many bills. I am signed up for the Aers program but the list is 10,000 just in Maryland is there any other form of getting paid?
