If I have a senior living within my home who cannot afford to live elsewhere - and yet I cannot take care of myself - what options are there?

EXPERT Carol Bradley Bursack, CDSGF Jul 2009
You should check with your local adult social services (county). They should have resources to help, and you may have to work to get this person on Medicaid.

Good luck. It's a lot of red tape, but it will be worth it.

If you have to go to medicaide find an elder lawyer it is worth the money you need to spend -mine spent 1 hr in his office and required a retainer of 5 hrs - I had to call him a few times but tried to do as much as I could to save money and when my husband passed a way soon after he was not going to charge anything but I had already sent in the check and will meet with him to go over the will and might need help with the paperwork for insurances etc. so I told him that and what time I do not use I will get back-but he or she will give you a list of what paperwork you will need and it is long and do not be surprised if when you meet with social service they will want something you do not have my daughter works for social service in another county but not in medicaide and she said that would probably happen and just take it slowly and you can only do what you can and the lawyer will help-the first elder lawyer charges $9000.00 to do the application so shop around.
