Where do I look for independent living?

Looking for independent living can feel overwhelming, but you’re already doing the right thing by asking questions. I’ve worked with seniors and families for many years, and what helps most is touring a few places and paying attention to how the environment feels.

Some simple things to look for:

Is it clean, calm, and welcoming?
Are the staff kind and easy to talk to?
What safety features do they have?
Do they offer meals, transportation, or activities?
Can they provide a little extra help later if it’s ever needed?
Most people feel much better once they visit a few communities and compare.

Do a Google search in your area. Check out older buildings with less amenities and hope for the best.
