The NH has the right to be paid from somewhere. Please talk to a social worker about applying for and spending down to qualify for Medicaid. The sad truth is that, with the increase and life expectancy and the greater cost of care, fewer seniors will have money left that they can call their own. The NH does have the right to request payment from the money in your mother's account.
