I'm worried about my mom getting kicked out of asssited living!

My mom has been in a nursing home for the last few weeks and she will be returning to her assisted living apartment next thursday. I am worried that they decide that she needs to much care and will kick her out. She is in the same exact condition as when she left (broke her wrist and needed surgery and rehab for a few weeks) but I am still worried. It seems like they have been looking for an excuse to kick her out for awhile now. She was placed on hospice 5 months ago due to metastatic melanoma (to liver and lungs, diagnosed a year ago) but she still feels fine. She also just went on MA and i think this is part of the reason they are wanting to kick her out. She required no extra care than the day she moved in, actually less because hospice has taken over the baths each week. Just worried.....

I know she is one of the lucky ones! its been 18 months since they discovered it had metastasized. The reasoning for her not staying in the nursing home is because as a group her assisted living place and hospice and i agreed mentally she would decline faster as she is a very social person so it was better to leave her where she was comfortable.

Is there a reason she can't stay in the nursing home? Hospice care can be delivered either place. You may want to go to www.ltcombudsman.org and find your local long-term care ombudsman. He or she may be able to help you get your mom settled. She deserves to have a peaceful ending to her life, not be juggled around. Good luck,
Carol

Check to see if your state has an agency for elderly. They might have posted the laws re assisted living facilities re evictions

Don't know how current this siate is but gives info about various states and assisted living. Your state may have a watchdog group that you can contact to investigate whether she is being appropriately treated.

CLIENTS IN MANY MOST OF THE STATES CANNOT BE KICKED OUT AND REFUSED CARE, THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. EACH AND EVERY PERSON IS ENTITLED TO THE CARE THEY NEED TO RECEIVE!
