Does anyone have any experience with DFS memorials for an affordable cremation?

My mother says she wants a no-frills cremation when she passes. I did a Google search for cremation providers in Miami and found DFS Memorials offering affordable cremations $795, which seems very affordable.

Price seems reasonable. I am in TX and that is a similar amount I paid. The certificates were extra. Just a simple box.

Call around in your area to local places that do cremations. You can get a better deal is you pre-pay.

I called around-got a description of fees over the phone from companies in the area. If you do this ahead of time, you get an itemized list of options (I indicated we would not require any kind of memorial, and we had a receptacle), and you know exactly what you are paying for. It is not just the cremation-it will be transportation, copies of death certificates, receptacles, etc. it should all be spelled out for you. If it is not what you expected, you have time to go elsewhere. We paid $1600. 20 years ago my Mom was $795.

Do not search a general Google site. Go to the funeral home for pricing.

Had the same concern. I used Apollo few weeks ago in Hialeah and was good.

That is a great price (I work at a cemetery). You can also call the Neptune Society.
Know that a prayer has been said for you and yours ((hugs))

Just a heads up: once you have contacted Neptune Society, they will call you, email you, and generally drive you crazy with their high-pressure sales. My husband had to chew them out and block them to get them to stop. Not pleasant.

In Rochester NY there are similar & dignified options for $800 and less.

My mom was cremated in 2022 (Phoenix) and it was about $2500, it was very much no frills service.

My mom prepaid for her cremation and it was 1k, in 2023. In a big city. My dad did not prepay and it was 1,400.00 in a small town 2021. In 2012 my nephew died at 21 and I was blessed to find a crematorium that would cremate him for 595.00 total.

As you can see, pricing is ALL over the board.

795.00 sounds like a good price, I would find out what other fees you will be responsible for. These added up to several hundred dollars for my dad.

Govt , maybe Medicaid, price even less. No frills cardboard box pickup, then into cardboard oatmeal canister :)

My MILs cremation was 1500 12 years ago. And that was taking the body straight to the crematory. Foe extra, a small luncheon was added. My exs was 2300 9 years ago and that was done thru a Funeral home. $795 sounds awful cheap now cremation is being done more.

I suspect there are some hidden costs. My immediate family has always opted for no-frills cremation(just our style) and I believe the most recent was around $1200, not including death certificates.

This is one of those referral companies. So they recommend, after you contact them, reasonable services in your area. A national company in fact. Seems to me that would only add to cost, much like a care agency does. I would be surprised if anyone is doing it at that reasonable cost. Hope it's true, but am doubting it until proven otherwise, and am hoping our OP isn't being phished with good bait.

It does seem affordable indeed. When I look up this company it is a "service" that "connects you" to providers in your area, so I hope this isn't a "come on".
My own experience is that a simple cremation costs about 2,000 on average. I am assuming you have checked this company, its service providers, and are satisfied? The obligation is your to check on these things.

My only concern here is that when there is a "middleman" such as this national company you are in the end ADDING cost, not subtracting it.

I would contact some hospice agencies in your area. I believe they will have the best, most reasonable and the most honorable providers in your area. Best of luck.
