Is it appropriate to give a gift to the nursing home Admissions Director?

My mom was just accepted into a LTC facility. The Admissions Director really stuck her neck out to get my mom in. The facility rarely takes people from the outside, or "the community," as they call it. They mainly just transfer patients already in their rehab to their LTC, as needed. But this Admissions Director really liked us, when we came for a tour, and got my mom in! Should my husband and I give her a gift to show our appreciation, maybe a gift card to a local restaurant? I just don't know if this is appropriate or not. TIA!

I would keep any gift a small token.
What might be more appreciated is a nice letter written to her thanking her and expressing how much you like the facility and that you are sure that mom will be happy.
I would address this to her as well as to her supervisor..how ever far up the food chain you want to go.

If you do want to give her a gift I would make it a gift for her office a plant maybe.
Or a tray of cookies and or fruit that she can share with staff.

While an administrator is doing her job getting potential residents to "sign on the dotted line" as this is good for the corporate bottom line the employees that deserve appreciation more is the staff that will be in direct contact with your mom. Nurses, CNA's, cleaning staff, people in charge of activities... These are the ones you should bring cookies, fruit, an occasional pizza or sandwich delivery to.

And as the year progresses any holiday where a gift might be appropriate many places have a "rule" where gifts above a certain amount should not be accepted by staff. (generally a $25.00 cap is put on a gift) Some places will request a specific dollar amount that will be split with all employees. If there is noting written in the information you have been given the protocol will be explained as the holidays near.

Up to you. It's a business and now a bed is filled that will make the facility money.

A small arrangement for her desk. I have found that these people have very small offices, sometimes sharing.

I also vote for having lovely flowers delivered to her with a handwritten note of your appreciation.

I would give a gift. A beautiful bouquet of tulips, if nothing else. If I could afford, then that restaurant (great idea) card attached. She could pass it on if she didn't use it. She went the extra mile for you. So yes, I think it would be wonderful to respond.

We had a good experience yesterday when our car had a breakdown. I think it is wonderful to give acknowledgement when something goes RIGHT these days; it is--if I am honest--becoming so very rare to get something done right.

Thank you for your detailed response! I'm glad things turned out ok with your car breakdown yesterday.

I don't think a dollar value of a gift should be given. It can be considered a kickback to corporate and she may have to decline the gift. Perhaps a plant with a heartfelt note or card would be best.

I am glad you are gratefule for the work she did but she is doing her job and filling a bed.

Thank you for your response. I was concerned that a gift with a dollar value could look like a kickback.
