Do I need to notify health insurance co that my mom passed?
Do I need to tell my mom’s health insurance company that she passed, or do they find out from someone else? Will they still cover claims as long as the service date was before her death?
If she had a Medicare Advantage u probably need to. Medicare is notified when Social Security is by the funeral home. My Moms supplimental was thru Dads employer so I hadvto call benefits to stop that and her pension. Medicaid was notified by the Nursing home.
My MIL just passed away in a LTC facility this past Sunday of a holiday week, so there were no admins to give us guidance, but the Chaplain thankfully was there and very helpful, then the hospice lead came. When the rep from the crematory came to receive her body I got info from her about next steps. Then the next day the Cremation Society (where we purchased the cremation policy) made an appointment to have a phone briefing with us the next day. The Cremation Society rep informed us that Medicaid, Medicare and SS would be notified by them through the process of them filing the death certificate. So, assuming your Mom was over 65 and on Medicare, you shouldn't have to inform them or SS of her passing. This is assuming this process isn't state-specific. I'm sorry for your loss.

With my grandmother, it resolved itself and my mom didn't have to do anything.
