Is there a way to get transportation home from an ER room after visit? Yes! Most ER room visits the ER room will call Lyft or Uber for free!

Its free. Most ER Rooms have the ability to call and get Lyft to pick you up from hospital and take you home. 1 way only to home, though. Free! Most er rooms have the ability to do so now days. They do not advertise this, but I do it approximately 1 time 2 times a month to every 2 weeks.

I just checked the main website for our large regional hospital, that has numerous hospital locations here in the Washington DC burbs, and under Lyft the patient has to set up an app and use their own credit card to pay for the ride. Some insurance companies will reimburse a patient for the cost of said ride.

Incentive to stay out of the hospital if at all possible there, then.

It was a chuckle how quick Cleveland Clinic could get test results, so that an Emergency room patient may not need to stay overnight.

You are correct. In my time as an RN there was no Uber and Lyft services. But now both even provide low cost to senior care on programs in cities so they should always be called to check that out. And yes, Hospital ERs all have the ability to provide transportation by voucher. We used to do this all the time in my city.

Need a ride home from the hospital

Can you clarify if you mean the hospital will call the service for free? Or are you saying the hospital will pay for your ride home?

I don't doubt that some hospitals will pay for your ride home. This is because they want you out asap because it's cheaper to do this than to have the headache of dealing with someone who is lingering over their discharge plans.

But please understand that hospitals are local entities and what one hospital does may not mean others do it.

I have never heard of it being free. Maybe your hospital does it but I doubt if all do.

I'm sure they'd CALL for you, but you aren't going to get a free ride!

My LYFT and UBER accts are tied to a CC. That's the only way the driver gets paid!

Not to sound harsh, but these drivers are WORKING. Your emergency is not theirs and I do not know an UBER driver who'd be thrilled to make $0 on a transfer.

Better to line up a driver beforehand, friends, neighbors, somebody who will come fetch you. I realize not everyone has a good support system. But you can't expect these PAID drivers to simply give free rides to people.

Free rides home from Cleveland Clinic and Metro Health. I even asked the driver if he was paid, he said yes and with a tip.

First time in hospital, I was able to take a bus.

Second time, Uber. it was a Fri evening 9:30, driver drove a Toyota Sienna., (nice car) got home in time to see "Blue Bloods"

3rd time, used Metro's own ambulance company. (they actually double booked), so both ambulances went to the home.

4th- Cleveland Clinic arranged the ride, again late evening, after 9PM. Ride was actually cancelled twice before last driver took it. Remember people in Emergency waiting room complained about wait, even to security. Driver had Chrysler 300. (nice car)

You realize someone has to have that app tied onto a credit or debit card for either Uber or Lyft, right? Theres never literally a free ride.

And of course the er is taken care of too? Do you realize how expensive this is?

For your own health and that of the healthcare system, I suggest visits with your pcp to improve whatever consistently lands you in the er. I also suggest getting the Uber app.
