Some dementias are a constant slide down, some are step steps down with plateaus and some are kind of up, down, and all over the place. For my brother in the early stages of Lewy's, he was better some days and worse others, and if he was at all anxious about anything it was definitely on the worse side. He was enormously helped by my taking over all bills, his Trust, his accounts and POA, and with his going into a really good ALF. It seemed like so many burdens off his mind he could relax and he had so many fewer hallucinations, his memory was improved, even his handwriting and his ability to get back to letter writing.
I would say from what I have learned, from what I see here, that it is just as individual as a thumbprint, the reaction to and the ways in which someone reacts to dementia.

Unfortunately that is all too normal with dementia. Plus I can only guess that the facility keeps him pretty medicated if he is aggressive, which I'm sure doesn't help matters either.
