up and down stairs

Physical therapist assessment. They can tell you what is feasible or not. Ask the doctor for a referral

davfarr, stairs can become difficult as one ages. I see from your profile that your wife has mobility issues.

I have read where some install a stair-lift but would that be something that your wife would use? See if you can find some place where she can take a test drive to see if she likes using it or not.

Or other mobile issues, a rollator walker is great, if your wife is able to use the "hand brakes". My Dad had one which he loved, it had 4 wheels, a very comfortable seat, a basket that he found handy, and the hand-brakes. Those walkers come in all sorts of nice colors, such as dark pink.

There is always the though of downsizing to a house that has no stairs. I see you wife is still young being in her 70's, so moving now you both can spend many good years in a new house.

Can you please edit your post so that you are asking a specific question? What about the stairs? If someone is having problems, what type of problems and does this person have cognitive/memory issues? How old is the person? Do they have any other physical challenges?

Thank you
