Where do violent Alzheimer’s elders go after being kicked out of 2 memory care facilities?

My father-in-law is being kicked out of his 2nd memory care facility. I’m disabled and don’t what to do. They are sending him to a behavioral health facility but it’s only a ten day facility.

There are State maximum security psychiatric facilities for this kind of patients. However, they have to be committed by a Court. Check with your State Mental Health Department.

Thank Anne & Connie. I’m guessing there is no facility for his long-term care needs unless behavior health come up with a new cocktail of meds.this will be his 2nd time at BH. He spent 7 months at first memory care facility, was kicked out due to behavior, moved to the second facility about two weeks ago and today he threw heavy objects at the director and the owner. They are sending him to BH today.

I wonder where a social worker will be able to send him?

Hopefully a thorough psychiatric/neurological evaluation will reveal enough information to allow the evaluating psychiatrist to develop a behavioral management program AND prescribe medication that will help those who care for your FIL to manage his conduct successfully.

The temporary setting may also be able to recommend placements that will be better able to manage behavioral concerns.

As long as there’s a comprehensive evaluation in the works, 10 days may be ample. If you can, indicate to social services there that you critically need recommendations for a new placement ASAP.

They need to be aware at the outset that no temporary return to his family is possible.

Hope you have good luck with this. It’s a tough one.

Psychiatric Hold and evaluation. Try to locate a geriatric psychologist/psychiatrist to start a real plan for his mental issues.

If he is violent, you can give it to the police for 72 hour hold and then force them to get placement through a social worker.
