Basil thumb arthritis trapezectomy w Welby suspension plasty. Any suggestions on how to make daily tasks easier after the surgery?

Hi,
I have had trapeziectomy with Welby suspension plasty on my left hand and thumb and also now required on my right hand and thumb. I live alone and want to maintain my independence as much as possible considering the circumstances.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to make daily tasks easier after the surgery, other than employing a nurse, please let me know. I’m frustrated with the ongoing arthritis and problems inherent with it.

In the closest city where I am, there is a government-funded service (Independent Living Center) which keeps a large range of things that help people with disabilities, from tap handle extenders to ride-on wheel chairs. It’s staffed by professionals (PT, OTs, etc). You make an appointment and get detailed personal help and suggestions. No obligations. Chemists have some things, but nothing like the range and knowledge.

I’d suggest that you ask your state aged care agency where to find something like that, and get yourself to it for advice. Good luck! Margaret
