How to persuade an elderly lady to have a shower?

I ask the lady who I look after if she would like a shower she point blank says no, if I put the shower on and leave it to runway sometimes she gets in by herself but sometimes she asks why it’s been left on and gets angry saying it’s a waste of water.

Instead of asking her, why not try TELLING her. And I agree w/the teepa show video suggestion. You have to use a different approach when dealing with dementia. Usually it’s better to tell them than to ask them. Don’t give them a choice.

Do you have any experience caring for an elder with Alzheimers/dementia? If so, you should know that they often HATE bathing & have many fears associated with it. I suggest you watch some Teepa Snow videos on YouTube to learn some tips on getting a demented elder to bathe, and techniques to help her feel safe & comfortable in doing so. Also, don't ever leave a 95 year old woman alone to shower by herself! Always make sure you are there WITH her to help her into and out of the shower, and to help dry her off, etc. An accident can happen in one second in a shower stall; trust me, my 93 y/o mother has fallen in there many times, even WITH help!
