I have a Durable Health POA and Financial POA for my mom who has Alzheimer's. Do I also need a general POA?

My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's several years ago. At that time, we met with an Elder Care Attorney and obtained a Durable Health POA and a Financial POA. She doesn't own her condo or have many assets, so do I need a general POA in addition to what I already have? My sister is also a financial PA and handles my moms finances to ensure bills are paid, etc. I'm just trying to make sure we are prepared for what lies ahead. I'm currently receiving her mail at my home because she was throwing important things away, paying the same bill multiple times, scheduling appointments with people who sent her junk mail, the list goes on. Just not sure if there will be any other issues pop up down the road that a general POA will cover that we aren't currently thinking of. Any input is appreciated, thank you!

Dear JHW4541,

There is a very good source you can go to on the internet: www.investopedia.com. "Power of Attorney: When You Need One". Within the article it explains the four types.

I myself, have both a General Power of Attorney along with the Durable Power of Attorney. I also, have one for her finances, health and mental (I can't remember what that one was called - ha ha :) )along with a living will and Advanced Directives. I had all of these in place a year before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's related dementia. She is 95 now and so much has happened since her diagnosis in 2014 that I would never have been able to foresee!

Like you, I also had all her mail delivered to our home for the exact reasons you stated above.

You and your sister are very wise to have as many things in place in case "other issues pop up down the road" that way you won't have to scramble to do them in the midst of a crisis.

Wishing you all the best in whatever your future holds!

Is your financial a Durable general POA?

My financial POA says the above.
