Is it true that a Veteran with Dementia/ Alzheimer's can apply for Medicaid in MD, and they will not count spouse income?

Being a Vet, as far as I know, has nothing to do with getting Medicaid. Maybe your info has to do with a Veterans home.

What usually happens with a married couple is the spouse still in the home becomes the Community Spouse. Assets are looked and split. The split of the sick spouse is spent down then Medicaid applied for. The Community spouse gets the house. The Community spouse will not be made impoverished.

More to this. It depends on ur state.

I dont know about Maryland. In general, Medicaid views ASSETS as joint marital property which are split in half. Income of the spouse is not considered.

Have you gotten a free initial consult with an eldercare attorney? Or spoken to a Medicaid case worker?
